I was sure by now,God, that You would have reached down
and wiped our tears away,
stepped in and saved the day.
But once again, I say amen
and it's still raining
as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain,
"I'm with you"
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away.

And I'll praise you in this storm
and I will lift my hands
for You are who You are
no matter where I am
and every tear I've cried
You hold in your hand
You never left my side
and though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry to You
and raised me up again
my strength is almost gone how can I carry on
if I can't find You
and as the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
"I'm with you"
and as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise
the God who gives and takes away

I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth
I lift my eyes onto the hills
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth

A broken heart is not hard to find anymore.  My heart will forever be broken and torn. Something is gone that can't be replaced. I really miss the smile on your face. I love you daddy!

 Here is our story:

A father who stopped by his daughter's house to get some drinking water from her well was shot and killed Monday after he apparently interrupted a burglary, according to Maj. Keith Riddick with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Cecil L. Mills, 65, was found lying shot to death by the open door of his vehicle by another daughter, who stopped when she saw his gray Ford truck parked in front of her sister's home on Cherry Street near Pomona Park in South Putnam County.

"He apparently goes there every day to get water because it tastes better than his own. We think he interrupted a burglary in progress," Riddick said Monday evening.

Mills was found around 1:30 p.m. He lived a couple of blocks over from his daughter.

"We got a 9-1-1 call from the residence. When we got there we found Mr. Mills dead. From all the indications there was a burglary. The door's been forced open and there was property piled up as if someone was getting it ready to take out," Riddick said.

Mills was last seen alive about 10:30 a.m. Monday when he left his home to go to his daughter's and the store "to buy smokes," Riddick said. "That was his usual routine."

Daughter Sherri Pye was passing her sister's house about 1:30 p.m. when she saw her father's truck out front and the truck door open. Her father had some health problems and she stopped to check on him.

Riddick did not yet know what kind of gun was used or how many shots were fired. Bloodhounds from the Tomoka Correctional Institute were brought in for an article search, but no weapon was found, he said.

Florida Department of Law Enforcement crime scene analysts were still working the scene Monday evening, and Sheriff's detectives, investigators and attorneys from the homicide unit of the 7th Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office and the bloodhounds were continuing to search the area.

Riddick said two burglary investigations are ongoing in the area, but he did not know if they were tied in to the shooting. In both cases, the homeowners found their houses burglarized when they returned home from work. Several other burglaries have occurred in the area.

There are no suspects in the shooting, and law enforcement officials are hoping the public will be able to help. Anyone with information can call the Putnam County Sheriff's Office at (386) 329-0800 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-8477.

Arrests Made in Pomona Park Murder

2008-12-01 by: Major Keith Riddick

ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Two Palatka men have been charged today with the murder of Cecil L. Mills, while a third is being sought. Johnny Lutrell Jones, 24 years old, of Mimosa Street in Palatka and Lamont Antonio Riley, 24 years old, of Kay Larkin Drive in Palatka, have been identified as two of the three assailants in this case.
Both men have been suspects in the case since shortly after it occurred. The case was "broken open" this past weekend, through the assistance of members of the Palatka Police Department. Jones was arrested early Sunday (11/30/2008) morning after being arrested by the Police Department for shooting at one of their officers. Jones made statements to their investigating officers that caused them to contact Putnam County Sheriff's Detective John Merchant and 7th Judicial State Attorney Investigator Chris Middleton, who then interviewed Jones.
Once Jones was interviewed, Detective Merchant and Investigator Middleton located Riley as he left his Palatka home. Riley was taken to the Sheriff's Office, where he was interviewed and subsequently arrested. Riley had already been interviewed once on this case.
Currently Jones is being held without benefit of bond on the Palatka Police Department charges, while Riley is being held, also without bond, charged with Armed Burglary of a Dwelling. Both will be charged with 1st Degree Murder. The third suspect is not being named at this time.

UPDATE:
The third suspect in the murder of Cecil Mills has just been arrested by Detective Merchant and Investigator Middleton. Charles Edward Coring III, 24 years old, of Palatka is currently under arrest at the Sheriff's Office. He, as well as Riley and Jones, have now been charged with 1st Degree Murder for the shooting death of 65 year old Cecil Mills.

UPDATE : February 25, 2010 , Johnny L. Jones was found guilty of First Degree Murder with a firearm and armed burglary. He was sentenced on March 18, 2010 to 2 life terms without parole for the murder of our father Cecil Mills and the burglary of Cristy and Boo's home.

UPDATE: July 12,2010 ~ Instead of the trial for Charles Coring III to begin today, we spent the day giving impact statements. Last week he accepted a plea deal with the state. After agreeing to testifying against Lamont Riley, Charles Coring's punishment for involvement in our father's murder and the burgulary of Cristy and Boo's home is time served plus 5 years probation. This sentence also includes the charges for the burgulary he commited moments before he burgularized Cristy and Boo's home. We were not given an option in this punishment, as we DO NOT agree that he should get probation. He will have to give his truthful account of the burglaries and homicide in court, under oath, during the trial of Lamont Riley. Justice will come from God in his case.

Trial is forthcoming for Lamont Riley. Trail was set for August 2010,  but we have heard that it will be postponed until further notice. This is a strong blow for us to take as with this postponement comes a new judge.

Trial for Lamont Riley has been set for Jan 31,2011.

Update: Jan 2011. One week before trial was to begin for Lamont Riley we found out that trial has been postponed. We are rescheduled for the next Pre-trail date at the end of April 2011. We also found out that our case has been reassigned to another judge. In Oct. of 2010 we lost our judge due to mandatory retirement. Our case was reassigned and we went to court for one pre-trial with our new judge. Since then they have set us up with a 3rd judge. She is a new judge to our county....one who has NEVER heard a murder case !!! We also found out that we lost our lead attorney to a better position within the court system. So within a matter of 10 minutes we found out that trial is cancelled, we have a new judge who has never heard a murder case, and we lost our lead attorney, and have a new attorney on board to help our now lead attorney, and our case has been moved yet again, now to April 2011. This was all a slap in the face as far as I am concerned considering it would have only taken a few moments of someones day to call us and give us a heads up on all of these things happening. Instead it took a phone call from us to the victim's advocate to verify the start of trial to bring all of this out !! After questioning my advocate about how come no one called us , "the victim's / victim's family / witnesses ", I was told to try to not let this consume my life !!!   HOW CAN IT NOT CONSUME ME ?????  My father has been murdered and no one within the court system seems to care that is has been 2 years and 3 months and we are still.....WAITING FOR JUSTICE !!!!

UPDATE 8-19-2011: Trial is set to begin for Lamont Riley next Tuesday 8-23-11. After the defense motioned to continue again, we spent yet another day in the courthouse today listening to testimony and arguments. The judge rules in our favor and said that jury selection will being Monday and opening statements will being Tues am.

On a side note Charles Coring has been rearrested a few weeks ago for violation of probation and currently incarcerated. He will stay in jail until after he testifies and then will answer to the judge regarding his violation. He "could" face up to 15 years for this violation.

UPDATE: regarding court proceedings: 2011 brought our final trial finally. Lamont Riley was found guilty on all counts and was sentenced to 2 life without parole terms. He took no blame at all and in fact said he was a victim in this case and will continue his fight with appeals. Charles Coring was released from jail after he testified againts Lamont Riley during trial. As far as we know he continues to roam the street along side you and I. Johnny Jones did file and appeal in regards to his conviction and we did find out that his appeal was DENIED!!!  His 2 life sentences will stand as ordered. We will continue to fight for JUSTICE FOR CECIL MILLS, fight against any appeals that may be made.~

Standing for you is what we do.

A POEM WRITTEN FOR YOU DADDY:

AS DAYS TURN INTO WEEKS

AND WEEKS JUST PASS US BY,

WE PONDER ON THE QUESTION,

AND CONTINUE TO ASK WHY?

IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE YOU'RE GONE

AND WE QUESTION EVERYDAY,

IF THERE IS TRUELY A REASON,

A REASON WHY YOU'VE BEEN TAKEN AWAY.

THE LOSS AND PAIN UPON OUR HEARTS,

IS TO MUCH TO UNDERSTAND.

WE TRY AND TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT,

BUT WE JUST CAN'T COMPREHEND.

THERE ARE NO WORDS OR EXPLANATIONS,

THAT SO FAR HAVE HELPED TO HEAL,

TIME I GUESS IS WHAT WE NEED,

HOPEFULLY THAT WILL IMPROVE HOW WE FEEL.

SO UNTIL THAT TIME PASSES US BY,

WE'LL CONTINUE TO CARRY ON,

AND FEEL JUST LIKE WE'VE BEEN FEELING,

SINCE THE DAY THAT YOU'VE BEEN GONE.

I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU WITH ALL MY HEART DADDY,  LOVE, SHERRI

Dad....your memory will remain in our hearts and minds forever.  Your legacy will live on.  I am proud to be your daughter, and proud to stand for you as you did for us.  What you did was brave, and I honor you for that. Watch over us and guide us through. This has been the most difficult thing to hit us in our lives. We know you see us struggle everyday. We hate struggling, and we wish we could just let it go, and be happy. It's just so hard.  God bless your soul, daddy.....and always remember how much I love you. ~Cristy
